    Slow boot time

I wanted to increase my boot time

[Karmic] Boot time has a huge regression (~1.5 min against ~40 sec for Jaunty)

    I applied Scott J's method.

    Please try the following:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-boot/ppa
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This should install an updated kernel package, and replace sreadahead with ureadahead.

The first reboot will reprofile your system, the second reboot should be substantially faster.

Please let me know how you get in (before/after bootcharts always appreciated)

Now I can't tell if I'm actually booting that new modified kernel version with -ureadahead, because I've been toying with GRUB 2. Also, now the fix for the GRUB 2 hidden menu doesn't seem to be behaving quite the same...

    Installing libdvdcss

    Ubuntu 9.04 and 9.10 (i386, amd64)
    * Install the libdvdread4 package (no need to add third party repositories) via Synaptic or command line:

    sudo apt-get install libdvdread4

    * Then open a terminal window and execute:

    sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

Has anyone ever gotten either the screen or media keys working. I could use the keyboard button. I've been using fvwm mostly and need onboard accesable.
