    Hey

What linux utilities can I use to format a hdd? Probably needs to be burnt from ISO and run from a downsized Linux kernel.

Gparted you can find it at Synaptic Package Manager. Or you can download an ISO image if you want to use it in other system or as a tool, from here:

    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Disk formatting utility

Dban (Duke's Boot and Nuke) is a tool more for securely deleting everything on a hard disk by multiple overwriting, not strictly for formatting a drive, though it may do that, I'm not sure. It also takes forever to work its magic on a large drive If all you want to do is format a drive to a specific file system, and most are available, gparted is the tool of choice.
