event in Madison and you're invited!

This is cross-posted with Minnesota and Wisconsin LoCos, I hope no one minds.

Wisconsin joins the global conversation about art, science, and spirit of 'open'. Open Everything: A Conversation on Openness, Access and Transparency is a roundtable discussion on the current state of 'open' in the region. Participants come of an array of sectors dealing with various levels and components of 'open' issues, including: technology, education, libraries, journalism, government, philanthropy, arts, nonprofit sector, and more.

    Why?
Open is a game changer. Take a look at the growing revolution around issues of transparency, collaboration, access and inclusion. Libraries and educational institutions have been working on open access and open collaboration issues for a longtime; but current technologies are spearhead the shape and form of openness in unprecidented ways.

Wikipedia and wikis offer a great example of new tools that allow mass contribution, while encouraging collaboration. Open source software offers a great example of new ways in which to be open, to collaborate, and produce products and services of great importance. Openness in media and government are pushing the boundaries of transparency and accountability, exploring what it truly means to be a democracy.

The conversation has spread well beyond the realm of technology. It's about value and values. Where has been? Where is open is headed? Open Everything gathers the people who are charting this new trajectory, and encourages the active collaboration across various work sectors.

    Who?
You! The world's changing, and you're an active agent for its change. Many of us are working with different kinds of 'open' exploring corollary issues: "How do you protect and promote open source in a world of intellectual (IP) property?" "How did 'open spaces' morph or mash into 'co-working'?" "How do you encourage community and civic engagement on local, regional, national, and even global issues and events?" "How does access to research effect university rankings?" and so much more.

    Why?
Madison, Wisconsin, the Mid-West, the United States. The time was right to bring the conversation to the heartland. With the recent presidential elections pushing openness, collaboration, technology, and a higher level of transparency to the forefront of the public mind; Madison decided to join the world stage of Open Everything.

    When?
10am to 5pm, Saturday, 6 December 2008. Capitol Conference Room AB, Grainger Hall, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 975 University Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin.

    How?
This is a free event, with limited space availability, please RSVP your attendance. We will be confirming attendance, and place overspill on our mailing list for our Spring/Summer 2009 Conference. Facebook Users not on Facebook? RSVP Here.

I won't be able to attend but if anyone is going to be blagging about the event I'd like to read about how everything goes.

We'll definitely be Tweeting about the event, particularly at http://twitter.com/oemad. Probably blogging too. I'll see about getting a list of participants so you can check out the blogs individually.

There's a schedule of events now at http://openeverything.wik.is/Madison...a_December_6th
