[SOLVED] How does Ubuntu manage multiple cores?

How does Ubuntu manage multiple cores on a processor? Just wondering; I haven't seen any articles saying Ubuntu is particularly good or bad at it. I thought maybe Linux has no concept of multiple cores, which seems stupid so it can't be right... can it?

Re: How does Ubuntu manage multiple cores?

I have no experience in this, but from what I've heard Linux (and Ubuntu by extension) handles multiple cores/cpus very well, much better than Windows. I've heard stories about Linux boxes with insane setups like 16 CPUs.

Take that with a grain of salt, I've never done multi core stuff in Linux, that's just what I've heard.

No, the Linux kernel has had SMP support for years.

    Hi DD

Just type Computer Cluster in a search engine and you see upwards of 250 cores running on Linux, hi hi............

One of the graphics labs where I used to live had a couple of dozen dual core processors all linked together in a cluster, so they could do in 30 seconds or less what took DAYS for a single dual core computer to handle.

I was thinking about playing around with clustering myself until I took a look in the ole Hip National Bank and it only had Moth's flying around in there, hi hi.......
