Headphones not working after 8.10 install

Have done a clean install of 8.10 on my Zareason laptop and find that the headphone jack doesn't have any output. Have tried the volume controls to no avail. Was not a problem with Hardy, but is new with Ibex. Anyone suggest where to start? Thanks.

Apparently, there were some changes made in the mixed when I installed Ibex. This solution worked for me:

I got my headphones to work by opening Volume Control, selecting my Alsa Mixer, clicking Preferences, checking Surround, and then turning up the volume for Surround.
