Ok, I know it's awfully off-topic but I can't resist. I know a lot of experienced windows users come here when getting graphics cards set up for the first time in linux, so maybe one of you kind souls can help me out here.

I have an nvidia geforce 6200 that works great in ubuntu Hardy and Intrepid using the nvidia drivers - good 3D performance, nice desktop effects in gnome and in KDE4, works great.

I suddenly need to use Windows for part of a project, so I partitioned the drive and put on XP. I installed the nvidia driver, rebooted, and now Windows will only display 800x600 in 4-bit color mode. I tried some different, older versions of the drivers, but no change. Google shows me that lots of people have this problem but I don't see a clear solution.

Any windows experts around ... ?

I can't figure out where the xorg.conf is ... or why the sound doesn't work ... windows makes me feel like such a n00b ...
