Can anybody help me figure out how to fix this?

My mouse keeps jumping up to the right hand corner in Ubuntu 8.10. It works fine in Ubuntu 8.04, Linux Mint 8.04, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

My mouse is a Logitech Wireless Laser Mouse from the LX710 Keyboard and Mouse combo.

My keyboard (which uses the same dongle), works fine.

On a side note: This is also the slowest booting ubuntu, and slowest shutting down / restarting ubuntu (almost 5 minutes to turn the computer off) I have ever used. This is a problem for when I upgrade or install new things that require a restart. The computer just hangs at a black screen with a white blinking cursor.

The ISO I used is from the MIT media lab, and the installer said No Errors Detected. I am having the same issues from an ISO from Georgia Tech (again, no errors detected).

Specs of my PC:
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600 at 3ghz
GeForce 8600
750 GB HDD
Gigabyte P35 Mobo

EDIT: When I start the system, the mouse works good for about 10 minutes (ever since installing the nvidia drivers) but then the mouse behaves erratically again.
