    No Sound - Via Envy24PT/HT

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10 and I have no sound. Sound has worked flawlessly on this machine from Edgy to Gutsy thus far.

Here is some info that might be helpful:

    Code:

Unfortunately that guide did not seem to help.

    Here is some additional information

    Code:
    > dmesg
    [   15.242767] ICE1724 0000:03:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
[ 15.278753] ice1724: No valid ID is found
    [ 15.278775] ICE1724 0000:03:02.0: PCI INT A disabled
    [ 15.278798] ICE1724: probe of 0000:03:02.0 failed with error -5
    Code:
    > lspci -v
03:02.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24 [Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller (rev 01)
    	Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 18

    	I/O ports at a800 [size=128]
    	Capabilities: <access denied>
    	Kernel modules: snd-ice1724
    Code:
    > aplay -l
    aplay: device_list:215: no soundcards found...
I put in an 8.04.1 LiveCD and the sound worked fine, but 8.10 doesn't seem to be able to use my soundcard.

    Dear friend and friends,

I'm still in trouble where you were. In fact my system doesn't recognize my sound device even if it seem I have, like you the modules snd 1724.

I tried also to install Oss but without any success. I feel uncomfortable now because I presume I installed too many things. How may I can clean ans start again from zero?

Basically I think the problem is coming because at aplay -l is not recognized the sound card

Even if I found several friends that tried to helpme, after hours and hours of trials and no solutions, I personally fixed buying a new sound card. Less than 20 Euro. Of course I asked before its compatibility with Linux and now my sound function perfectly!
