    I suppose the next question is, will Ff1.5 RC3 automagically update to 1.5 full?

    There is no update because there is no difference!

    Look at your RC3, everything indicates that it's 1.5.

    So we have to live with the flickering menus? and that closing a tab with middle-click doesn't work?

    Why do packages such as mplayerplugin, mozplugger, etc... do need to be repackaged ?

    can't the just have a <= dependency upon mozilla-firefox ?

    Re: Firefox 1.5 Backport

    Just out of interest, once you have the initial backport of 1.5 up and running, how much of an effort will it be to backport each subsequent security fix? Is it just a case of applying the source patches direct from the Mozilla devs and re-building and testing, or is it much more involved than that? Generally speaking, is it signicantly easier to maintain a package than to create one from scratch? Cheers!

    Question Re: Firefox 1.5 Backport

    Why can't the firefox team take some responsibility? It's their department to kick IE's butt, not ours. IF they want us to use firefox, then THEY should have to work for it too, WITH the Ubuntu community What do you all think?

    Disclaimer: This person is a complete newbie, and has no idea how the structure of the open source communities operate.

    File a bug report in bugzilla.ubuntu.com against the flickering menus... And go to about:config, turn off middleclick.contentloadURL and middle click works again

    The upstream sources at mozilla.org are final, not the Ubuntu packages

    There already is a bug filed for this problem (which I have by the way):
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=306426
    Unfortunately, despite being extremely annoying, no one seems to be taking care of it.

    Re: Firefox 1.5 Backport

    Thanks... Note that since this is not a show-stopper bug (minor annoyance), it's understandable that they wouldn't delay the release of FF 1.5 for it... Otherwise you end up with the Debian fixing-minor-bugs-for-3-years-per-release effect, and people get equally ticked

    Anyway, the bug does have a patch available, and I'll see if I can get our Ubuntu devs to include the patch.

    UPDATE: http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=20326 Filed Ubuntu bug.
