[SOLVED] Any way to run QUICKBOOKS on Ubuntu?

    Hi Gang

No decent Accounting Package is forcing me back to the DOZE!

It's the straw that broke the camels back for me!

I thought I could get by with GnuCash, expecting it to be more like Quicken than Quickbooks.
However, it HAS More BUGS than Carter's has pills.

Edited to SNIP Rant (I was in a BAD mood, sorry!)

Any suggestions before I reload XP on our more important back office machines here? I'll keep Ubuntu on front office, but for serious and reliable work in business, Linux has years if not decades to go yet! Not blaming the Linux community, I know its the manufacturers and vendors who ARE the PROBLEM causing this!

I'm going to try a few BOUGHT programs for accounting on Linux, but most of those are geared to Red Hat and may not work. I don't mind Buying a program, IF IT WORKS and can keep us away from Mickey$oft. But it does have to WORK!

Now I can't quite recall which package it was... but a friend of mine went on their site and it has a very thorough tutorial of setting up the accounting package in Linux using WINE. (The "windows emulator")
I shall quickly google that and see what I can find for you.

    Hi LowSky

    I bookmarked that web site!

But I don't see how going to THEM is going to provide me with an accounting program that WORKS......
That's like going to Coke and asking for a Pepsi!

I see thousands of posts here in this forum for recommendations for programs compatible with Ubuntu and just about as many complaining about programs that don't work, yet are in the Distro Repository!

How can somebody recommend something else if they don't know WHY you are displeased with the versions available in the repository?

What business accounting program do YOU recommend?
Or did you just post to run your Post count up another digit?

    Thus the quotation marks.
Emulator is just easier to say/understand than application compatibility layer.

Re: [SOLVED] Any way to run QUICKBOOKS on Ubuntu?

    Hi JP

Thanks, I will look into it (them)!

Going down to Quickbooks from Cougar Mountain was a big downhill step and a major new learning curve, but since we downsized after the move, Quickbooks could handle most of what we did. We still have to cut n paste from one program to another a lot of the things Cougar Mountain did automatically, with the right modules of course.

I've been playing with a few form fill type templates where I can save the form data and view it again as needed. Also allows for a truly customizable and more professional Invoice too.
There is a lot I need to learn about spreadsheets in order to make some of the things seamless. But I can honestly say, I am having fun learning these things more than I had ever needed to know them before.

    Thanks for the tips!

I have liked the program PostBooks. It is based on the PostgreSQL database server. It is not available through the repositories but it is very powerful and there are howtos to get it installed and running.

i have no need for accounting/financial managers, so i can't give a real opinion on such... but i have heard good things about kmymoney:

    http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/index-home.html

it should be in synaptic, or from a terminal:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install kmymoney2

    Hi fooman

I've heard good things about it too!
It's ok for home finances, but has virtually no necessary features needed for business accounting. Invoicing, Statements, charge account tracking, etc.
But with some workarounds it would be possible to utilize it for general journal work.
