update on SliTaz

For all of you who, like myself, are anxiously watching the SliTaz project, have no fear! Though the website has been very quiet lately, the mailing lists are still active, and version 2.0 is underway. Check out the roadmap for more: http://wiki.slitaz.org/doku.php?id=devel:roadmap. It's due out next March.

Ubuntu is great but I have been using Slitaz cooking exclusively for many weeks now and the speed and usability is unprecedented. Simple, quick and easy and free for bloat. After you have downloaded and installed cooking remember to go to XTerm and write:

su root
root or other password
tazpkg recharge
tazpkg upgrade

and you have the latest software. If you don't like the Windows Manager just read the forums and install Enlightenment. It works perfectly on my system. Good luck!

I have space for six buttons advertising operating systems on my blog. The six I have chosen to provide with this honor are:

* Slackware
* Arch
* SliTaz
* NetBSD
* DesktopBSD
* OpenSolaris

I'll have to try those. Would you suggest Arch Or Slackware? I am thinking of Arch as my next attempt at a Linux distro.

Arch is easier, but Slack will teach you more. Arch is more up-to-date, but Slack is stabler. Arch's community is larger and more helpful, but you can't beat the knowledge of many Slack users.

I would recommend Arch to start because it's very easy if your network connection works.
