A little help Ubuntu-LAMP

I'm a web/software developer located in Oakland County Michigan. I have a ******* server at a datacenter in Troy and I'm adding another one, but this time I want it to run Ubuntu as a LAMP server. I need some help with setup and troubleshooting before I deploy it. I'm looking for some phone time with somebody with some Ubuntu and LAMP expierence. I can pay or trade. Thanks

Thanks for the reply Scragar. I dont have a problem with discussing it here, the issues seem to be so basic in nature that I dont really want to impose, but here goes. I bought a used server that had ******* 2003 enterprise. I installed ubuntu 8.04 desktop (because of the gui)and then installed Apache, PHP and MYSQL. A couple of times the machine has locked up. Each time it locked up I was doing something, ie., downloading, browsing, etc. I ran Windows Diagnostic for 5 hours with no hardware errors. I looked at what logs I could find (my lack of Linux expierence, I might not have been looking in the right place)and couldnt find any error messages. The data center where this box will be hung is about 40 miles from my office and multiple trips and unreliabilty cant happen.
Is there something I can check to nail down the problem? Should I have done something different with the install of Ubuntu? I just installed it over ******* and re-partitioned the drive.
Any help would be appreciated.

A better explination of locked up would be nice, but if it has locked up normaly dmesg will have something to say. so if you managed to recover from the lock up run:

dmesg | less

or otherwise you can find it in the logs directory(/var/log), only the latest 2 versions(current and last) are in text format, the remainder are put in tarballs to save space. If you could post the last few lines here(in [code]OUTPUT HERE[/code] if you can) it would be a big help in seeing what's going on(some people have reported lock ups on hardy, I myself experienced one or 2, but nothing after the first kernel update...)



EDIT: it's /var/log on them both, now how did I rename that folder without knowing on my second partition?

/var/logs/dmesg and /var/logs/dmesg.0 should both open with the text editor, the other ones(the ones ending .gz) should be extracted first(from the command line that can be accomplished with:

gzip -d file

You may want to copy it to your home folder first so you don't need root perms to extract it).

It just locked up again. I'll have to kill the box in order to restart. Additional info: keyboard "caps" and "scroll" lock buttons are flashing and the mouse doesnt respond.
