    [SOLVED] Listening to internet radio

I am new to Ubuntu and very frustrated.

Can someone explain how to listen to internet radio?
some radio stations offer a choice of player other stations just play (on my Windows computer).

    - Realplayer: I was able to install Realplayer, but when opening the radio station RealPlayer is not the program which opens.

    - I used Windows Mediaplayer for the stations I listen to.

I have read MANY guides on how to listen to internet radio on Ubuntu. The more guides I read, the more programs I installed, the worst it all got. I have now wiped Ubuntu and started over.

Can someone provide an effective way of listening to internet radio?

    please help.

I would suggest Songbird - You can download the latest version- 0.7.0 from GetDeb.net
Categories > Audio Tools > Songbird. It installs easily via the GDebi Package installer.

Amarok can connect to all the Shoutcast stations as well as LastFM. It's a KDE app, but I don't think it looks too bad on a Gnome system.

eternalnewbee: Thank you. I tried some of what I see on this guide. It made things worst. The streaming window would show a message saying "no video". Before that I was able to listen to some radio stations.

BUT, this guid seems more complete. I will slug through it.

Paqman: I installed amarok, but I could not figure out how to make the radio streaming open with amarok. Is it possible to make a radiostream open with amarok?!!!! I read good review on amarok, but it didn't work for me.

Thanks eternalnewbee. This guide is excellent. It takes care of everything. The only complaint is that it takes way too long to buffer (stream media). Speed is OK on Windows part of my dualboot system.

    Thank you

Yes, I know the speed sucks.
Anyways, glad I could help out.
Let's hope things will be better with 8.10...

Have you tried Banshee? It has a big selection of internet radio already, and the ability to add more. Just click the Add Station button on the top right when looking at the radio tab.
