So last night I upgraded from 7.04 to 7.10. When I restarted, I was unable to load ubuntu due to "Kernel panic- not syncinc:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown-blcok (0,0)"

I went to the Ubuntu chat, is this is the gist of where I am now, and what I've found out: 1) Booting to the new kernel fails with "unable to mount root fs". 2) booting to the old kernel makes it to the graphical login, but hangs. Terminal login ok. 3) Menu.lst has the same root and kernel-"root=" settings for both the new and the old kernel.

Is there any way that I can get this fixed? I can't use a live CD, since my CD-Drive doesn't work. As I said, I can still look about my PC through the terminal, but nothing graphical. Any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance.
