For those who are running Intrepid, in order to use them, add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

    Code:
    #Calc's Open Office PPA
    deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main
    deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu intrepid main
Then just run the update manager and upgrade to Open Office 3 (or, you know, do your command line magic with apt-get/aptitude or whathaveyou).

Edit: Though it may seem that the PPA has a Hardy version as well, if I am browsing correctly. In which case just replace "intrepid" with "hardy" in the above lines.

Doesn't seem to work with hardy--updating doesn't indicate any packages available for upgrade. Also, the package sizes are much different than the ones in intrepid (too small). My guess: these are placeholders for a future available upgrade for hardy.

Thanks for trying anyway, I would have checked myself, but I don't have a Hardy install left.

Actually if you look at the list of packages on the PPA page it only says "Intrepid" under Series, which means there's only packages for 8.10. And then there's the info at the very top of the page:
    PPA for OpenOffice.org Scribblers

    URL: http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu

    OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 - INTREPID ONLY
Those last two words should have been a tell: There's no packages for Hardy in that PPA at all. Sorry.
