Proposal for forum touch up, for PS3, PPC and other platforms

Hello everyone. I am proposing a change to the forum (minor, really) that will hopefull smooth out some bumps. Namely, Apple PPC users, PS3 users and Sparc users will like it. Possibly, netbook users as well.

This forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=340 is needed I think, but, take into accounts is extremely slow traffic (when I original proposed this, it was at two pages. Now it is at three pages. Not very fast).

I propose it be renamed to "Alternative Platforms", and have the following prefixes:

• alpha
• arm
• hppa
• ia64
• mips
• mipsel
• powerpc
• PS3
• sparc
• Netbooks
• Other

This would allow people with unique (or at least, non traditional desktops and laptops) to have a place for support without having the many assumptions of using x86 or x64 that is most common.

My "Netbooks" addition is new. It was part of the original list, back when the EeePC was the only real option, whereas now we have Dell 910, the Acer One, etc. That may be an interesting topic for a new forum, however, that is not for this proposal.

What do you think? Suggestions? Support?

Well, it is a unique platform. The PS3 architecture is based on the PPC for example, but PPC advice wouldn't be that useful for it. The Netbooks use (mostly) processors not found in PC's, so I would consider them unique.

Of course, I think for netbooks, they would be better off having their own forum with prefixes, and originally, only one was out with Linux so that was why the list had them.

I agree with the others that suggested that netbooks be separated from the other platforms. While they are x86, they have other issues (wireless, video) that are different from standard PC's.

it would be great to have somewhere to talk about powerpc (the apple forum is too busy, and not all powerpc is apple). i think it would be fine to share it with the other ports.

not sure about including netbooks. the issues they have are quite different from powerpc and sparc.
