    Mandriva Powerpack 2009

Does this seem a bit bloated to you?

You have to pay for it as well and there are "activation keys".

Well I know mandriva has deals with some companies to provide things like "legal" codecs and dvd playback.
    But bloated?
Not any more bloated as Ubuntu can be for some people.
But Mandriva does offer a free version and a open source version so they stay within the code of the GPL.

It also includes Cedega which is not freeware, and professional support. In the past they have also included the commercial version of VMWare, but not sure about 2009. The activation keys are given to you after you buy powerpack so you can't pirate it.

    .
You can use the 'Free' DVD install version, the livecd 'One' version, or choose to pay for the powerpack version (has legal codecs and such).

Oh... there are no Microsoft type 'keys' needed to activate the powerpack version.

Antman is correct. They will give you a key(for powerpack) to type in and activate here: https://my.mandriva.com/register/key/ It is not the same as Microsoft activation.

They are now. Back when they first introduced Mandriva Club, things were a bit different. If you search around, you can probably find some of the horror stories about Mandriva's customer support back then.

    +1
Luckily they changed for the better. They still need to make the PWP version a little more interesting though... I just let my subscription expire since I just don't see the need in it anymore. Maybe if they offer a LiveUSB creation tool for PWP members and more commerical apps (instead of trials) I may buy one again.

    .
no. Mandriva is a great distro. they offer the live cd, the free dvd and the powepack version(which costs money). you're free to choose what you want, just download the free version and don't complain
