Why would ubuntu be loading the kernel modules raid0, raid1, raid10 and raid456 when I am not using RAID?

I still can't believe nobody knows an answer to this.
I've also recently setup a RAID0 system and it still loads all these modules.
What gives? Why waste space for stuff that's not used?
