    Hard drive issues

NOTE: I have not tested this with Linux yet. This is all XP and Vista.

I recently bought a new system, It's a micro ATX system. I put in 4GB DDR2 800Mhz ram, AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ clocked at 3.25Ghz. The ram is reported clocked at 465Mhz, with dual channel I'm assuming that doubles it.

    Ram timings: 5-4-4-15

I have a 320GB WD HDD, and bought a 250GB Seagate HDD after having corruption in the WD. Turns out it wasn't the WD.

I've done a memtest (I haven't actually finished it, I got it up to 65% and said to hell with it since it showed no errors) I've done multiple reinstalls, repairs and its really pissing me off.

    The problem:

Ever since I got this build, windows had NTLRD (whatever it is, I'm on vista now and it just wont boot unless I repair it - when it happens) missing.

I've done multiple repairs to fix this, sometimes the repairs don't work and I have to reinstall.

Then, data on the HDD started going bad. I first noticed this when I loaded up steam, joined a empiremod server only to be told "Your map "name" differs from server" and then I get disconnected. Since then, I've had this problem multiple times on all the steam games I have.

I've noticed corruption in videos, mostly just quality loss.

Finally, I reformatted the WD again.. and then, it froze. Literally froze in reformatting. I restarted, only to find the WD partioning was so messed up I could no longer boot into windows. I could no longer boot into a live cd. I could no longer do anything with the WD drive connected.

Removed the WD, and decided to just use the seagate HDD. Booted up without a problem, then more data corruption.

I have no idea whats wrong with this build, frankly after a month of this im close to throwing it out the window (not really, just fusterated). I thought it could be the ram since the timings were not what they should have been (they were 8-6-6-32 or something) so I manually changed them to 5-4-4-15 which were the correct timings, and raised the voltage on ram to 2.1V, it was 1.8. Still the same issue.

Is this a windows issue?. Would linux fix this god forsaken problem?.

The only other things I can come up with - The MB HDD (SATA) controller is damaged/not working right.

The other thing would be the Hard drive is not getting enough power, but I can't see that corrupting the data.

    Any ideas?. HELP!.

Edit: ...uhhhh, I have 223 posts?. I thought I had like 50 something..

Also, any chance that my WD drive can be salvaged, seeing that I can't get into anything to partion it with.

THe first error you are getting, is because you didn't shut vista down properly, and it is marked that files are still open. I not to sure avout the second error.

I would be applying for an RMA and and shipping the whole thing back to the wholesaler/retailer for a replacement.
