yes to all. It is a replacement, but you can still dual boot and run either or run inside the other with VirtualBox or another virtual machine emulator.

or even install ubuntu as wubi which means you can remove it like a windows program . But it is better to dual boot ,put in the live cd after it has loaded it will give the option to install on the desktop . gparted should take care of partitioning for you.

Yes and no, it's your choice.
You can have both on the same computer at the same time and choose which one you want to run at startup. Or, you can replace Windows with Ubuntu.

You will be given the option to install with another OS or use all disk space for your install near the end of the install wizard.

I have found some "how-to" instructions and videos.

Review them and if you have any further questions please ask away.

And the google search I used to find the above links.

Re: does ubuntu replace windows or can i run both on my computer?

    Yes to whatever you want.

    1. If you want... Ubuntu can be the only OS on the hard drive and can overwrite windows. This is good if your ready to kick Windows to the curb and never look back.

    2. If you want to keep windows and Dual boot, then Ubuntu can give you an option to re-size your windows partition, and to install beside windows. I recommend this option if you still don't know if you need to keep windows. But, i do recommend running a drive defragment in windows before proceeding to help protect against data corruption in windows.

    3. If you are really weary about messing with partitions then WUBI would work for you. But, i do not recommend this one from a performance standpoint.

keep asking questions if you still need help. Were are here to help. Just be aware that not many people use ubuntu forums in the Colorado team. If you need real-time support try our mailing list and irc channel. ubuntu-rocks.org

you can run windows inside a virtual box inside of ubuntu, but you will get direct draw and no direct 3d so if you want games, dual boot is the go

If someone asks you to sudo rm -rf anything, don't do it, and don't run any command with rm in it unless you know exactly what you're doing.things i have learnt changing from Xp pro to Ubuntu
