    Re: Hauppauge HVR-2250 With Mythbuntu

Hello All. I am running into issues with my Hauppauge 2250. I have followed several people including LowSky's instruction on #10. My problem is that I have everything installed, but when I go to my backend to setup the cards my cards are not showing up no matter what I select. I can select the analog, H.264 or the DVB and nothing will make my card appear.

When I run a lspci -v i can see that my Hauppauge 2250 (please see below)

02:00.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7164 (rev 81)
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. WinTV HVR-2250
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16
    Memory at d0400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
    Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
    Capabilities: <access denied>
    Kernel driver in use: saa7164
    Kernel modules: saa7164

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or what step I am missing? I am just trying to get this card to work and I am not having any luck. I am running Natty. Not sure what other inf is needed. I just find it strange that my card is not showing up in the backend when trying to configure it.

What do you mean "make my card appear"?

What is dmesg telling you about the card?

    what does
    Code:
    find /dev|grep dvb
    tell you?

    Grab the firmware.
    Code:
    wget -c http://www.robotbeard.com/hvr-2250/HVR-2250_firmware.zip
    Unzip the files
    Code:
    unzip HVR-2250_firmware.zip
copy the files to the /lib/firmware folder
    Code:
    sudo cp *fw /lib/firmware
Now check if the card can be located and what value the system has given it
    Code:
    dmesg | grep saa7164
on the 3rd or 4th line you should see what you are looking for it will look like this
    Code:
    [card=8,autodetected]
What this says is my HVR-2250 was detected at card 8, you may (probably will) get a diferent number. If your card says "unknown" choose the last option, usually 8.

Now we need to enter this card number into modprobe.d/options.conf file (I like to use gedit)
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf
place this line of code in the file
    Code:
    options saa7164 card=x
    *x = your card's number*

Reboot and check mythtv backend to see if it is listed correctly.
Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

Well the card is clearly recognised isn't it? I actually suggest a new thread as this thread is long enough and is about the 2250, not the 4000.

    LowSky did it all:

LowSky, how about posting a bug asking those firmware files to be incorporated into linux-firmware-nonfree?

its already a listed bug, please feel free to add your comments to it.

In the mean time I'm looking to turn the instructions into a simple script, or even spin it into a deb package if my skills can increase +40 (sorry bad elder scrolls joke).
Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

    Re: Hauppauge HVR-2250 With Mythbuntu

Also having problems with Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2200 on Mythbuntu 11.10, kernel 3.0.0-15-generic (x86_64), tried both firmware-only and with drivers from git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git. The module seems to load and the dev entries are created, but nothing tunes.

If I let modprobe detect the card id it says:
    Code:
    [ 2794.678934] CORE saa7164[0]: subsystem: 0070:8940, board: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR2200 [card=9,autodetected]
I previously had this working with Mythbuntu 11.04 using card=4. I've tried all the card ids. 4 and 9 give me the frontend dev entries but neither tune. The others give various errors. I guess I'll try downgrading the kernel next.
