    Unhappy 500 Internal Server error

    Hi all,

I am new to Linux and have Ubuntu 6.06 LTS installed on my p3 with intel 810e motherboard. I recently installed Apache2, PHP5, Perl, CGI, Python etc on it.

When i type http://localhost/ in firefox, it shows:
    ----------------------------------------------------
    Code:
    Index of /

    ---------------------------------------------------
when i type http://localhost/apache2-default/ in firefox, it shows:

    Code:
If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page.............
    ----------------------------------------

If i rename the file index2.php( which contains <?php phpinfo() ?> ) to index.php in localhost (/var/www), and then type http://localhost/ in firefox, it shows:
    ----------------------------------------
    Code:

my apache2.conf file is shown below: (i did make some changes)
    ----------------------------------
    Code:
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # Changed extensively for the Debian package by Daniel Stone <daniel@sfarc.net>
    # and also by Thom May <thom@debian.org>.

    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    #
    # NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
    # mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
    # (available at <URL:http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
    # you will save yourself a lot of trouble.

    ServerRoot "/etc/apache2"
    ServerName localhost

    # The LockFile directive sets the path to the lockfile used when Apache
    # is compiled with either USE_FCNTL_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT or
    # USE_FLOCK_SERIALIZED_ACCEPT. This directive should normally be left at
    # its default value. The main reason for changing it is if the logs
    # directory is NFS mounted, since the lockfile MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL
    # DISK. The PID of the main server process is automatically appended to
    # the filename.

    LockFile /var/lock/apache2/accept.lock

    # PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
    # identification number when it starts.

    PidFile /var/run/apache2.pid

    # Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.

    Timeout 300

    # KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
    # one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.

    KeepAlive On

    # MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
    # during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
    # We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.

    MaxKeepAliveRequests 0

    # KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
    # same client on the same connection.

    KeepAliveTimeout 15

Smile Re: 500 Internal Server error

Actually, i solved the error now.

    I commented the following:

    (with a #) in apache2.conf.
    --------------------------------
    Code:
    #Include /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/*.conf

I uncommented the following in apache2.conf.
    --------------------------------
    Code:
    UserDir public_html
    UserDir disabled root
    Include /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/*.load

    (this one not necessary)
Since i have a public_html file in home directory, i uncommented the foll in apache2.conf:
    ---------------------------------
    Code:
    <Directory /home/*/public_html>
    	AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
    	Options Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec
    </Directory>

I commented the following (with a in php.ini.
    --------------------------------
    Code:
    ; extension=msql.dll
    ; extension=msql.so
    ; extension=gd.so
And Voila!!! i was able to see the phpinfo.php page and also my other *.php files.

    Re: 500 Internal Server error

Hi, I've been receiving this 500 system error after upgrading from 8.04.3 to 9.04.

    In a browser I'm seeing,

    Code:
    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
    Apache/2.2.11 (Ubuntu) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8g Server at www.siamnet.org Port 80
    In the /var/log/apache2/error.log I'm seeing,

    Code:
[Mon Oct 26 00:43:02 2009] [error] [client my.ip.address] SoftException in Application.cpp:296: UID of script "/var/www/localhost/htdocs/v.php" is smaller than min_uid
[Mon Oct 26 00:43:02 2009] [error] [client my.ip.address] Premature end of script headers: v.php
I have the exact same setup I've been using in 8.04.3.

    Thanks for any help
