Installed a wireless repeater, now Ubuntu won't connect

Hello,

I moved into a new place and the wireless signal was too weak for my room (only got ~2mbps on a G wireless network). So installed an access point (Airlink AP431W) which I set up as a repeater. Now I get a great signal and a nice speed under Windows, but Ubuntu refuses to connect to the network anymore.

I setup the repeater using the same SSID name and security settings. This is WPA Personal. (Didn't work under WPA2 either)

I think the repeater needs a different SSID name, or did some instructions tell you different.

Instructions said to match the SSIDs.

does it refuse to connect completely or connects but the internet doesnt work?

The AP431W is factory-defective in repeater mode. This is a known issue. There's a firmware update that is supposed to fix the problem, but does not. I wasted a year trying to get this POS to work in repeater mode before Airlink101 admitted that it was a design problem that caused incessant power cycling. I'm astounded it worked under Windows.
