Any suggestions on web server apps

I have tried xampp, and It isn't letting me enter files, no permission even though I am Admin. So any other suggestions? I am buying a new computer and trying to figure out which app needs to be on there for it to host my web site.

I would suggest using the lamp server package. If you install the server version you will get a screen that gives you the choice of what to install. Here is a good howto that walks you through installation and configuration step by step.

for a web server, i would suggest looking at joomla
