8.10: Black Screen: 82852/855GM

Compaq Presario M2000 laptop
Intel 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)

I upgraded to 8.10 over a month ago and it was working
fine. Sometime last week, I lost my graphical desktop,
I just get a black screen. I've been updating daily hoping
to get it back, but no luck.

My xorg.conf file looks ok. I removed any mention of the
Wacom tablet.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log looks good, it's detected the intel
chipset. Reports the primary device as: PCI 00@00:02:0
which concurs with what lspci reports.

and then the last 3 lines of the log file are:

(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
no screens found

I'm lost.

In /etc/X11/xorg.conf I changed the Driver from
"i810" to "intel" in the "Device" Section.

Solved it, by scanning through the mail archives
at x.org, search term = "no device detected".

One of the hits was this entry:
SOLVED: xorg, 965GM -> no devices detected

now I'm rocking again.
