Which is better, Kubuntu or Ubuntu?

Hi, I use ubuntu and am very pleased with it. However, I've been hearing several people talk about kubuntu being better. This is mainly coming from video comments on YouTube and other similar sites, but it still has me wondering. Does anyone know exactly what the crucial beneficial differences of Ubuntu and Kubuntu are? I don't need too much information really. I just want to know if there is such a big difference between the two distributions.

its all a matter of what you plan on doing. they both have different yet similar software package options. i usually go with the gnome interface though because i've heard that kde is somewhat power hungry like windows.

They're pretty much the same. It comes down to personal preference. I used to prefer KDE so I would install kubuntu but now I'm a gnome guy, so I install Ubuntu.

Really neither is better or worse than the other. They both use different toolkits or framework to draw and render the GUI.

The toolkits are gnome/ubuntu = gtk and kde/kubuntu = qt.

You can run qt programs in a gtk environment, and likewise,
you can run gtk programs in a qt environment, the downside is,

for either to work you MUST install many libraries from the other toolkit, so it can weigh on your system.

If you have a modern, fast machine, it may not make a difference.
If you have an older machine, running extra libraries, can significantly slow down the overall speed.

You don't really need to be asking these questions:

Linux is free software.

You do not have to pay anything for it.

Install whatever you like.

Try it out. Experiment with it. Test it.
If you like it, then use it.

If you really like it, then perhaps try to contribute to the project. Every little contribution helps.

When I first started exploring Linux I always tryed the distros that were Kde but then I tryed Ubuntu and Im sold on gnome now love it.Its just a matter of choice whatever YOU like to use so try em both and decide for yourself!

In the past Ubuntu has been more robust and Kubuntu was more sexy. Personally I am in favor of simplicity and robustness. With the introduction of 11.04. I think Ubuntu lost the robustness advantage for now. I think, it will take some time to get back to the old level of robustness. I switched to Xubuntu, simply because Ubuntu froze just after login due to poor support of my Intel integrated graphics controller. Having worked with Xubuntu for a couple of weeks I start to like it, even better then Ubuntu 10.10.
