    Internet badwidth control

I'm new to linux and don't know what programs are out there. I connect to the internet via a connection where the upload and download use the same bandwidth. That means I can either upload or download at about 256KB/s. The problem is when I'm trying to upload a file to rapidshare or megaupload to send someone and I start using the internet the upload is interrupted and fails.

A solution I believe would be to control my bandwidth locally on my computer by putting a limit on upload and download (eg: limiting download to 200KB/s to allow 50KB/s for upload)

Are there any programs for linux to do this. Preferably with a GUI but it is not essential

You could try using a download manager like Downloader for X. The package's name is d4x; you could either install it using Synaptic Package Manager, or using a terminal with the following command:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install d4x
Downloader for X has three configurable download speeds you can choose from.
