    wan versus lan ssh

Really dumb question, but for peace of mind:
I am using ssh to share files between two ubuntu boxes on the same lan, both behind a router. I have heard about "brute force" attacks etc via ssh. I have not modified the default listening ports, but I think I am protected from the internet because of the router, no? (I have not changed any port forwarding settings on the router)

You should be all set with that get up. If someone were able to hack that then you may as well keep the computer, unconnected to the internet, unplugged, and buried in a safe at a nondescript location. In other words, if someone were to hack you with the precautions are taking, there isn't much more you could do.

You should be darn near totally safe.
