    Question Help configuring LAMP

I just downloaded the "Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition" ISO (for x86 architecture). I have never used Linux before, but need to install a Linux web server. I need Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

Again, I have NO experience at all with Linux.

I would genuinely appreciate it if someone could post a link to a tutorial on how to properly configure it.

    Hi,

    here is one:https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/index.html
    and
    Here is another one http://gaming.gwos.org/doku.php/udsf:serverguide

PS: If I were you I would start with desktop first, when I am comfortable I will start with Server. Server edition is a comand line based and there no GUI!!!

I bought a book called "Ubuntu Server Administration" on Amazon, and if it weren't for this book, I would have never got my server running as quickly as I did.

This book is actually outdated, but the content is 99% relevant to what you are doing.

    Re: Help configuring LAMP

Getting the machine going is pretty easy - choose the LAMP option. Getting it set up (configured?) is a little more involved. Here is another starting point. I didn't bother with the desktop - most configuration is simply text files, but one popular GUI-type option is WebMin.

If you've never installed an operating system here is a good step by step tutorial:

    http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu8.04-lts

It walks you throught the complete installation.
