Flash file upload: size limit?

On two different web pages (for making photos from files) I experience that the flash based file upload function does not accept my bigger jpg files, they don't even appear in the file listing. On one of the pages (www.fotoquick.com) there is a web upload alternative, I guess not flash based, and there I can upload all my files, in a more complicated process.
Does the flash player have any maximum file upload size? Can I change it?

Now I tried a little bit more, and the size does not seem to be the problem. There must be some other file property. Scanned or drawn jpg files show up, but not files copied from my camera, even if they are manipulated using picasa.

Any ideas anyone?
