    Remove 'About Ubuntu' from gnome-menu.

This isn't possible by right-clicking and clicking 'edit menus'. Is there an XML file I can edit, or any conf to remove these from the menu?

Unfortunately that's not going to work. Alacarte is the app you launch by right clicking and clicking "edit menus"
