Linux Mint 5 has an interface windows users will be familiar with; it is called the "slab". I am not sure if there is an equivalent start slab option in Ubuntu.

    Re: Start Like Windows

There's a menu that you can add to the panel that is a bit more like the start-menu, in that it has "Applications", "Places" and "System" under one menu instead of three menus...

Right-click on a panel and choose "Add to panel..." then find "Main menu" from the list and double-click that.

You can remove the menu you have now (with the three menus) by right-clilcking it and choosing to remove it from panel.

ps. What is the tool-menu and what does it do in windows?
