My tearing went away with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.7.0.
This may be a dumb question ... but how does one find out what version of the xorg intel driver is installed? I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.04, so I guess it would be whatever the stock version of the intel driver that comes with that. Also, is there an easy way to compile the 2.7.0 version of that driver? ... it seems as though some of the libraries are not fully up to the version that the xorg intel 2.7.0 driver source requires. Or better yet, is there a .deb file of it somewhwere?
Yes, look here:

Didn't help in my case though.
Hi, For future use, you can use Synaptic to check the version, or run this in a terminal:
Code:~$ apt-cache dump | grep video-intel Depends: xserver-xorg-video-intel (null) Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel-modesetting Depends: xserver-xorg-video-intel (null) Depends: xserver-xorg-video-intel (null) Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg Depends: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10
I'm keeping my hopes up. I have a Lenovo T400 with X4500HD and the performance is spotty. Is there anyone with a T400 and Intel graphics that has good things to say about any distro that will work with this chipset? I would love to keep a linux distro on my T400 but when I switch to XP Pro it can scroll through web pages with no problem. I do have 9.10 working very well on my R51e (another user can't seem to get his to work- not sure why) and am keeping it on there for the moment.
