    Squished video playback

    I just recently set up Ubuntu on an old Del Latitude c800 laptop. Video playback is vertically squished, though, in an unlovely way. It takes up about 2/3 of the screen and a black stripe takes up the rest. I've tried VLC and totem, and the playback is the same. Should I be looking at my xorg.conf to figure out what went wrong?
