Re: Account Lease time / Content filtering

    Hiya Shane,

I'm using it on Gnome (I've tried really hard, but I can't take to the Unity interface). My son is set up as a plain old garden variety desktop user. Nothing complicated. And to be honest there aren't many settings to fiddle with! I limited him to 1 hour every day, between 1500 and 1700 every day; there didn't seem to be anything else to do. The Timekeepr tray notifier tells him there's so many minutes/seconds left, and then nothing happens! But if I log out or switch users, Tom's account is then locked and I can't reaccess it.

I hope this isn't a bug that shows up in Natty. Timekeepr was the answer to all my problems!

    Regards,
    Warren

It might take up to 2 minutes before he is kicked! (After time has run out!)

Aha! I'll give it another go and report back.

    Thanks for that.

    And you were right!

I set up Timekeepr, switched to Tom, then left the computer alone for a while. I came back to find it had logged out Tom's account. I was simply expecting it to work straight away, but as you said, it takes a couple of minutes.

    Thanks .nedberg!

Now, I've had a play with Nanny but I reckon Timekeepr is WAY better. It's sad to hear that you are no longer developing it.

Timekpr is designed to log off any restricted user after a set time. The timekpr-client notifies the user how much time is left. But because of a possible difference in the reported time and the real time used, the user is given an extra two minutes.

Yes, timekpr is no longer developed. I don't think I will take it up later. But it is open source so if someone wants to take over, then please do!

A big thanks to the developers, having been looking for something to do this for ages. Perfect.

I don't think it's under development any more.

Nevermind - I see that there was a PPA uploaded 4 hours ago.

    https://launchpad.net/~timekpr-maintainers/+archive/ppa

    See here about 11.10.

It isn't! I just copied the binary to the new PPA. I have not tested timekpr with 11.10, but got a mail that said it worked...
