    [SOLVED] Fading Application

Every time I start Google Maps application it loads and as soon as I take my mouse pointer off the app it closes the app.Is this a compiz setting problem or what? No other application does this. I do have compiz set to fade out the app after moving mouse pointer off of the app, and reappear with mouse over. This not a matter of opacity set wrong either. Is it possible Google Maps needs reinstallation? Thanks for any suggestions.

    Re: Fading Application

can you start the app by running it in terminal. That way we will get some nice error messages to work with.

    Re: Fading Application

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I ran it in terminal and got the message "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal"

After looking at the icon launcher properties on the taskbar and the properties on the launcher in google folder they are different. I think this is the problem and I don't know how they got corrupted. I have not changed anything. It could have happened during a update I guess.

    Taskbar launcher command: /home/clayton/google-GoogleEarthearth //googleearth %f

    Google folder launcher: /home/clayton/google-earth//googleearth %f

I don't know which command is right, so I changed the taskbar launcher to the same as the folder launcher and in ran the app but it did the same thing again, opening up and then closing as soon as the mouse pointer moved off the app. The taskbar launcher looks garbled to me, but that is the way it was when I first looked at it.The last time i ran it there was no problem, but it has been several weeks since i ran it.

I do appreciate the help, Retiree

Edit: Actually I don't have to move the pointer off the app,it will close by itself.

    Re: Fading Application

    1) Start a terminal and enter

    Code:
    googleearth
What happens? If you get any errors then copy & paste here.

    2) Did you install GE using the medibuntu repos?

So where and how did you install it?

I suggest you install it using medibuntu repos. Read my posts here:

    Re: Fading Application

I reinstalled using synaptic and it opens the app and immediately closes.Do i need to completely uninstall and then reinstall? Could there be some setting in compiz causing this? I don't remember how I first installed it,since it has been a long time.I think I used the Debian package to install originally. It has run flawlessly in the past. I am on Hardy x64 bit.
I will read your post and get back later. Thanks for your time and help.

    Re: Fading Application

I ran in terminal again and received the same message: command not found
After reinstalling from synaptic it opens and then closes quickly.
I'm headed to Church and it may be awhile before I get back. Thanks again, Retiree

    Re: Fading Application

    Please do the following.

    1. Right click on the ubuntu symbol (apps menu) and choose edit menus.

    2. Find Google Earth in that edit menus program. Right click on Google Earth and choose properties.

    3. What does it write in the command box? Copy and paste here.

    4. Also copy and paste it in a terminal and report back errors.

    I'm also going out btw.
