Connecting TV with Notebook - ATI driver

    Hi all,
I've HP Pavilion dv8305z notebook that I used to connect to my LG 29 inch TV using S-Video to watch movies in WindowsXP. But now I've completely moved to Ubuntu 8.04 I'm missing this feature of connecting TV. My display card is ATI Readon XPress 200M that I have configured using the ati 8-7-x86.

    tushar@ubuntu:~$ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon Xpress Series
    OpenGL version string: 2.1.7769 Release

If I connect my TV and laptop using S-Video the display do not match. My Laptop Screen resolution is 1440x900 on 17" monitor. On my TV the resolution goes beyond the screen. The only that I have seen it is working is in clone mode. If i change my laptop resolution to 640x480 I'm unable to see all the controls on the same.
How do I configure the laptop to run on 1440x900 while TV on 640x480 or the desired resolution?
I've tried following links that do not work for me.

I also observed that my vlc and mplayer when playing movie shows the movie on laptop screen but TV window of that application remains blank/black.

I do not want to install Windows XP even on single partition just for watching movies, I'm happy with Ubuntu and I only need to fix this problem. Can any one help?
