Toshiba A305 - how to switch video mode?

I installed Ubuntu on a friend's A305 because XP wouldn't install and he'd like to be able to use his HDTV as a monitor. Previously there was a hotkey (CTRL+ALT+F7 I think...) that would change the video mode to allow him to use the external VGA port. Does anyone know how to do this with Ubuntu installed?

    Thanks.

I don't believe it has an NVidia card though. The vendor was something that started with a C.

If it is an ATI or Intel card, have a look here:
