RT2571 problems, packet loss

I have recently sorted out my better halves laptop with ubuntu 8.04 all is running fine apart from her wireless. The machine is an ADVENT 7109b which has a ralink RT2571 card installed, on the network there is Mythbuntu machine and my work xp laptop which work fine with no issues. The problem I am having is that after 15 minutes of use the speed of the connection drops dramatically and I see massive packet loss when i ping the outside world and the router, but at the same time there is no problem with the mythbuntu machine or xp.

Any pointers on this would be most appreciated.

After a few days of cursing at this damm machine i have decided to opt out and see if i have got a hardware problem by ordering a intell card to replace this one. It is £15 and it will hopefully save some serious cursing and the rest of the machine from attack by man strop. Will report back if problems percist.

Yep it was shot god knows what the other half had done to that poor machine. But in the end the now H/W soted it out.
