CD Integrity fails on one computer but passes on another ???

If the integrity of the Ubuntu Gutsy ALTERNATE CD fails on one computer but yet when I take it to another computer it passes just fine, what would you suspect to be the MOST likely cause of the problem ?

The integrity (read/write capability) of the CD-Rom drive or a possible difference in the media type/brand preferred by the different CD-Rom drives ? Or something else ?

    Thanks.

I would tend to lean towards "The integrity (read/write capability) of the CD-Rom drive "

It can be a little of all of the above plus a pinch of who knows that is why we suggest you burn the iso at the slowest supported speed of your burner using a decent quality cd.

Most likely it is with the CDROM.

I find RW CDROM/DVD can be unreliable though too and I advise against using a RX CD/DVD as a backup media for any critical data.

Brand of CD can also be a factor, as can lunar cycles and magnet flux.

If you can, just pull the cdrom that reads it out of the computer it's in and use it on your ubuntu install machine to get ubuntu installed, then put it back. then again it could be just pull the cables, and plug them back in. Sometimes that can fix a problem like that. OR get a new ide cables from the motherboard to the cdrom.

I don't do drugs 'cause I find I get the same effect just by standing up really fast.

I like that. I have that problem and it does not have to be "really fast".
