Right click the panel > Click Add to panel... > Click Application Launcher > Administration > Network. Try that.

That doesn't work. It just creates a launcher for the network settings dialog. I am looking for the network manager applet.
Open Terminal.Code:nm-applet
...Getting used to Ubuntu...
All that seems to do is start a new nm-applet process. I am trying to get the network manager back on the upper gnome panel.
Rt Click Panel, Add, 'Notification Area" ...
Back to Xorg...
Retired.
Are all of your buttons missing from up there or just this one in particular?
****Edit -- Verify NetworkManager is running --That starts NetworkManager if it isn't running yet. The applet will not appear if NetworkManager is not started while the nm-applet is running. EDIT***Code:NetworkManager

just that one. I meant to delete something else from the panel, but deleted the network manager by mistake.
I tried running NetworkManager as well as nm-applet and still nothing was added to the panel.
Did you try rebooting?
