    KDE 4.1 Released

    From KDE.org

The KDE Community today released KDE 4.1.0. This release is the second feature release of the KDE 4 series, sporting new applications and newly developed features on top of the Pillars of KDE4. KDE 4.1 is the first KDE4 release to contain the Personal Information Management suite KDE-PIM with its E-Mail client KMail, the planner KOrganizer, Akregator, the RSS feed reader, KNode, the newsgroup reader and many more components integrated into the Kontact shell. Furthermore, the new desktop shell Plasma, introduced in KDE 4.0, has matured to the point where it can replace the KDE 3 shell for most casual users. Like with our previous release much time has been devoted to improving the framework and underlying libraries on which KDE is built.

Congrats to the KDE and Kubuntu teams.

I downloaded the Release Candidate yesterday and the improvements are found everywhere. Even though I still think that KDE 4 is missing some fixes now the system since more stable. Great job guys!

I spent about an hour with KDE 4.1 this afternoon and wrote up my thoughts here. Be aware that this isn't an official review - it's just notes that I took during my test.

    Re: KDE 4.1 Released

    I'm upgrading now.

I used KDE when I first began with Linux almost 3 years ago. When I came to Ubuntu I switched to GNOME and have stuck ever since... Kubuntu-desktop when I installed it every release was just not better than ubuntu-desktop. I like GNOME, and I've been using KDE4 exclusively for the past 2 weeks and still think I prefer GNOME... BUT that is mainly because 4.0 is just so unfinished. From the reviews I have been reading 4.1 should fix a lot of my issues... I'm going to test out 4.1 and probably like it. There are so many small features here I like, In my opinion GNOME and KDE both 1 up each other in different ways, I wish both had features of the other and it looks like soon KDE will quite definitely be better for a while.

I tried RC1 on OpenSUSE the other day, it was really nice.

Once I get my Nvidia card tomorrow, I'll be installing OpenSUSE officially. Yes, I know about all the Nvidia problems, but OpenSUSE hates my ATI card!
