Re: ath9k

Am I not getting any reply because of Ubuntu Studio or what??
I installed Ubuntu Hardy on my macbook pro before I installed Ubuntu studio and The voilin Script worked like charm!
The reason for me of installing Ubuntu Studio Hardy was because of the packages it already has when you install it. I'm workin on my short film for my diploma and need Audio and Graphic tools and Ubuntu Studio seemed to have everything I need for production.
The main reason was though that Maya doesn't have 64bit support for Leopard (this a real shame!)
And Linux is the fastest OS out there! and the best in my opinion once you get used to it!
I'll keep trying to get this thing to work, but PLEASE! if anyone has an Idea I would really appreciate it!
greetings to all.
Reld.

EDIT: Voilin says "if you have a custom kernel you have to edit the script before running it" Is the real time kernel of Ubuntu Studio a custom kernel??

It is not "custom" as that would be a kernel that you configure and compile yourself. It is however different from the normal -generic kernel that is in Ubuntu.

Am I the only one having freezing problems? As soon as it gets stuck in the loop of reporting "Wireless Event too big" my session is toast.

OK, well you definitely do not have working hardware, and you have no ndiswrapper drivers installed... If you are defintely going with ath9k, then you need to make sure that it is installed, and that the module is loaded (use 'lsmod').

P.S. You should put terminal output in
code tags
Thanks for making it easy for us to give ath9k a shot! I've found however, that ndiswrapper with the Windows driver still works better unfortunately. Much lower signal strength and intermittent connection issues is what I found with ath9k....Hey at least we're getting somewhere!

The same developers that do madwifi are producing ath9k. There is a developer mailing list there.

Re: ath9k

So I ran the shell script and all went well. In Restricted Hardware Drivers it shows up and is enabled but not in use. How would I go about putting it to use? The card is a Atheros AR5009 which uses a AR9280 chipset. Can say this is definitely the closest I have come to getting it to work. Ndiswrapper doesn't work with it so seems this is my only option as of right now.

Re: ath9k

New version of the compat-wireless-ath9k driver is out: 2008-09-07!
The script has been updated!
Check the instructions here!!

This *MIGHT* solve some of the problems people are having,
since this is still an experimental driver.
