    Onboard Realtek ALC888 Drivers!

Afetr XP screwed up on me I have decided to start using Ubuntu again cause I have more knowledge (Sort of...) ANyway, I have a MSI P4M900M3 Motherboard which has realtek onboard (ALC888) sound. I managed to get sound working by install the drivers from the realtek website for linux but we then had a powercut, since I live in England and its stormy . I re-booted into Ubuntu and no sound, I try reinstalling the drivers again nothing, I go googling for hours trying to find a solution and nothing. I tried everything from reinstalling the drivers to trying to us alsa (I failed) and using the windows xp GUI realtek sound in wine. I really need help here!

When I go to System > Preferences > Sound and click test on every single device I get the same error:
audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Failed to connect stream: Invalid argument
This happens after everything I do.

I also just remembered that when sound WAS working, the device in sounds was ALC883 not ALC888. Hmmmm. Interesting I still have no sound though :'(
