hello, I want to tell I've found a way to make it work.
the problem is that the acpi shipped with hardy isn't working good and the is bug open on it(or so I understood).
now I have my fn+f2 configured and it 'wake up' the wlan card, so wicd can make it work.
    thank you.
if you have the same notebook (asus a7d) and have problems feel free to contact me

It's confusing that they list two wireless drivers on the site, but try the first (most recent) one first:
    Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver 05-2006 6.00 A Version: 4.12M

See this for trying a new driver.

If you get it working, please report back exactly which driver download link you used, so I can incorporate this chipset/driver into the wiki.
Sorry, I've been away from the internet for a bit. I will try the suggested drivers, and once I get it working, I will definitely let you know what worked. Here is my lsmod:

Re: HowTo: Broadcom BCM43xx in 5 minutes with ndiswrapper/WPA for fresh installs

Tried the latest driver you suggested, restarted, still no wireless. lshw -C network did not show any "module=ndiswrapper" or "module=ssb." so I did the temp hardy fix. Now it shows ""module=ndiswrapper" but I still don't have any available APs. Should I try the older drivers? I will probably do that after lunch.
Here is the readout from everything i did.

Re: HowTo: Broadcom BCM43xx in 5 minutes with ndiswrapper/WPA for fresh installs

    Thanks, worked like a charm!

    Compaq presario f700
03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 02)
    03:00.0 0280: 14e4:4311 (rev 02)
    Hardy 8.04
    2.6.24-19-generic x86_64
    no extra boot options
    no compiling necessary
    step 2a used
used the hardy workaround (yet module=ssb was listed in the first section)
output of lshw -C network only one section after workaround (included below)

users should be careful with -l in command line, as it often appears to be the number one (1)

worked well when other fwcutter fixes only allowed access to a few wireless routers

Can you post the results of:
    Code:
    lspci -nnm
    uname -a
I want to see the subvendor information for your card, kernel version, and 32/64-bit version you are using. You have a 4311 rev 02 card, but it shows a 4319 chipset so I would like to see if the subvendor matches up with the windows driver you downloaded.

I tried the temp, and lshw -C network now shows what I think should be good, only one wireless network, and module=ndiswrapper, but I still don't have any wireless APs.
Right, that's what the lshw is supposed to look like. It could be that the driver's not quite right, so do try the others. Before you do that, please post the output of "iwlist wlan0 scanning".

I try the other command you gave me, and it tells me permission denied.
In order to edit that file (to put in the line I recommended, and to remove the previously inserted line), issue "gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper"
