Really, the best I can suggest is mess around with the input channels like I did here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=520
The input recording selection is a bit buggy, but eventually, if you mess with it enough, it'll work.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.
what the **** have i done now... XP
when i started recording in audacity and played some music in my headphones, audacity suddenly started to hear.
and when i played it, it played the song...
wtf
it works!

What profile should I choose in the soundprofile thing....I got a huuuugeee list of different profiles....atm it's "analog stereo duplex".
I think it's probably fine right there.
It depends on your setup. If you've got regular speakers, make a selection from the "analog" portion of the list; same goes for your microphone. Use digital if you're having your sound go out of a SPDIF connector.

Hrm OK, thanks, the sound is working very nicely. But I can't get my microphone to work, just like previous posts - I can't hear myself and noone else can hear me.... I've done abit what you said, muted the microphone in alsamixer and enabled line-in, then did the vice verse. Not getting any results at all though :/
EDIT.
I'm using Mangler with some friends and they can hear themselves when I push my speak button! But they cannot hear me at all :{ hope that's something good and fixable.
EDIT2.
I've been going crazy and tried everything I could without getting anything recorded from the microphone....It's relay sad if I have to go back to Windows just because of this :S I've been back and forth a bit and now that I discovered Mangler I thought I'd go try Linux again since now there was not a program that I couldn't get running any more. And now the microphone just refuses to do anything..... O.O Gonna keep trying for a while though...
Pic of my Alsamixer (sry for making another reply when I could have just edited!)

EDIT3.
Thought I'd post some more pictures!

For the PCM to record sounds from the computer the Mic have to be on CAPTUR aswell.
EDIT4.
I did a Audio advice info with Audacity, the result was - "Capture volume is emulated. Playback volume is native."
EDIT5.
Still havnt got it to work, pulling my own hair off : {

Actually, what you describe in your edit tells me you have the recording set to PCM, which is labeled as "what you hear" in windows. You might take another look into alsamixer. Make sure you're editing the settings of your X-Fi and not an onboard soundcard, or a GPU digital sound card. The info is in the top left corner of alsamiser.
I believe if you use the "." (period) button overtop of the PCM channel in the "capture" tab in Alsamixer, you can mute the PCM channel, so your VoIP application will hear your MIC and not PCM.

Hello
I am the owner of Creative SB X-Fi (e)Xtreme Audio Notebook ( + docking module ) and HP Pavilion dv5 1199ew. I am trying to connect those two for pretty long time. I have been so desperate, that I've sold this card 'coz I was so pissed of. But know, I have purhased the Logitech G51 and I want to work it under Linux ( Ubuntu ).
The disscusion about this in here took 50+ pages, and I am not sure if the problem is solved, so I am asking - is it ? Please, tell me what should I do to run it out. I can deliver anything ( I mean, what commands in console will "say" ) you want me to, but please let this work. Now, I have Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.04 alpha3.
Best regards, M.
