Installing Virtualbox OSE on Hardy

Hi
Im new to this so i apologise if this is in the wrong section.
I recently installed Ubuntu v8.04 and have been trying to install Virtualbox OSE with no success!!!!

Can anybody help me? can somebody talk me through the process? please be very specific as i have virtually no linux experience.

What specific problems are you having?

For the OSE version you should be able to install with:

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose virtualbox-ose-modules-generic

You can also download the more up to date and free (as in beer, not as in speech) version from the website and install it: www.virtualbox.org.

Does that involve being connected to the net? i cant through ubuntu cos i have a usb modem that it doesnt recognise.

ive downloaded the necessary files ( using my windows XP connection) but cant figure out how to install them.

BTW: I am a real newbie!

Yes, that involves being connected to the Internet. I'd fix your connectivity problems first before messy around with virtualbox. You may need restricted drivers or something special to run your modem. Google your modem model and linux and drivers and you'll probably find what you need to get things moving. Check the forums too! You'd be surprised what other people have come across. Good luck!
