    MP3 and Streaming Audio

I'm running 8.04 and whenever I boot if I play mp3 files first then I get no sound on streaming videos throughout the internet; however, If I open a streaming video first then ubuntu will not play my mp3 or other music files in amarok.

It will play them in Noatun though.

I do keep my music files on an external hard drive if that may be a problem starter.

    Any thoughts?

This isn't about where your music files are stored, mine are also stored on a server and I can play sounds from different sources without problems.

If you go to System > Preferences > Sound > Devices tab.
    What options have been selected?

Do you have the codecs installed?
If you don't go to add/remove and type in codec. You will find what you need there.

    Sound events:
    Autodetect

    Music and Movies:
    Autodetect

    Audio Conferencing:
    Sound Playback - Autodetect
Sound Capture - ALSA - Advanced Linux Sound Architecture

    Default Mixer Tracks:
    HDA Intel (ALSA Mixer)

I believe I do have codecs installed because the mp3 will work in noatun and it also works in banshee and amarok (only if I start the mp3 before streaming content)
