    Replacement for Photoshop

    Need a Replacement for Photoshop other than GIMP.

    You could try Krita (requires kdelibs and some koffice libs).

    Why not GIMP?
    If you need 16bit per channel then there is also cinepaint or Film GIMP.

    I think some people e.g. myself get put off by the interface. Some like it, but I am one of those that really dislikes it.

    ive never been able to get that to work, i install it, and run it, and gimp still looks like gimp!

    Can try running Photoshop in VM enviroment, so you feel you are still in Ubuntu but able to run windows and associated program

    ah... im going to be trying to set something like this up in about a week... my flatmate is a professional photographer, and although she's tried gimp and likes it, there a few functions she's not comfortable with / able to do with it... yet.

    but she's just bought an ubuntu laptop, to take roving with her!

    so, how easy is it to set up a virtual machine for photoshop? is there a quick n easy guide someone could point out to me? i'll be watching this thread for other tools that come up too...

    try virtualbox for virtualization.
    Only drawback, virtualization requires a lot of internal ram.
