Underclock Athlon 3000+ to work on Motherboard

Well, I recently went through a deal on Ebay where I bought an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ "knowing" that it worked on my GIGABYTE 7VM400M-RZ motherboard. I was surprised then when later I set it all up and the computer lights came on but nothing booted up.

An examination later, after thinking the processor was broken, revealed to me that there were two models of the same processor: an earlier model with 333 mhz FBS and a later one with 400 mhz FBS. I had grabbed the latter without this knowledge.

My question is if I can underclock this CPU to work on my computer and how would I do so (I'm running Hardy Heron) if I can.

To lower the FSB in order to work with your mainboard you will have to change some settings through your Bios.
For more information on how to do that you should be able to find details in your mainboards manual.
